Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF)


The overall mission of the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) is to provide real-world portfolio management and security analysis experience to graduate students of the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University. Further, SMIF will offer external visibility that will enhance Krannert’s recruitment, placement, and fundraising efforts. 

The SMIF actively manages an all-cap value portfolio with approximately $351,000 in assets under management. SMIF provides its members; resources through various events that include investment strategies, analytical research reports, speaker presentations, social events and trips to New York and Chicago and thus provide them opportunities to further expand their professional network. Furthermore, SMIF members are eligible to attain 2 credits upon meeting requirements set by the club.

The requirements to attain extra credits generally include:

  • At least 2 semesters of active participation in club affairs, meaning club members should participate in at least 80% of the speakers/club related activities. Please note that this requirement is for the scheduled activities, there will also be optional activities that occur throughout the semester.
  • Completion of one buy-side and one sell-side research report and presentation to the board
  • Participation in one or two team related or individual posts to the SMIF page on KrannertLife.
