The Board of Directors of The Executive Leadership Foundation (ELF) is pleased to announce The 2013 Award for Excellence in Business Commentary National Essay Competition, sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation. ELF, a 501(c)(3) affiliate of The Executive Leadership Council, Inc. (ELC), was established in 1989 and serves as the ELC’s related charitable organization. ELF’s mission is to develop the next generation of African-American corporate leaders from the classroom to the boardroom. ELF accomplishes its mission by supporting education and mentoring programs, providing scholarships to deserving students pursuing corporate careers, and sponsoring leadership development training.
For 18 years the ELC has offered the Award for Excellence in Business Commentary National Essay Competition. Through the competition, ELF and Coca-Cola are investing in the future of the next generation of African-American corporate leaders by encouraging them to analyze current business issues and by rewarding those who show superior intellect, critical thinking, creativity and outstanding communications skills. Each year, hundreds of collegiate scholars compete for ten coveted spots. The scholarship recipients will receive cash scholarship awards. In addition, the student will participate in an all-expenses paid, week-long Honors Symposium in New York City and Washington, DC. In New York City, the students will participate in meetings at Fortune 500 companies. In Washington, D.C., they will visit the White House, Congressional offices and the U.S. Capitol.
The highlight of the week will be their attendance at the ELC’s 2013 Recognition Gala. The Gala will be held in the Washington D.C. area at the Gaylord National Harbor Hotel on Thursday, October 24, 2013. More than 2,000 corporate executives, White House administration, public policy and education leaders will attend. As part of the Gala, the Essay Contest winners will be honored on stage along with other honorees and award recipients. The evening will be streamed live on our website.
